How it works

Digital Tachographs

Digital Tachograph Card Reader

All your drivers should now hold their own Digital Tachograph Smart Card for use in all digital tachograph units. All new vehicles now come with Digital Tachographs installed. These cards will hold roughly 28 days worth of information about the activity of the driver, including drive time, vehicles they have driven, out of scope information and more.

To comply with the law you must keep this data for 2 years, just as you would with the old fashioned wax disks. With the digital tachograph card this requires that the data be uploaded on to a computer and stored safely for this time. You are also required to have this data analysed for EU Driver Regulation and Working Time Directive infringements or breaches.

Using the Tachomaster solution the hard work of storing and analysing is all taken care of for you.

The Tachomaster software can be downloaded at any time and set up to use a smart card reader, you can download the data from any Digital Tachograph Smart Card with a press of a button and it will be sent to the Tachomaster servers for analysing. Almost immediately the data will be available to view not only on your Tachomaster software you installed, but from any computer using the secure Tachomaster web site.

Analogue Tachographs

Digital Tachograph Card Reader

For all your vehicles with the old style Analogue Tachographs installed the Tachomaster solution provides you a painless way to integrate the data with your new Digital Tachographs.

With the use of a high-speed scanner the wax tachograph disks can be imported in to Tachomaster, audited, and sent to the Tachomaster servers for analysing. At this point all the information has been converted in to digital data, and so is seen side-by-side with the digital data for the same driver.

Working Time Regulations

The Working Time Regulations apply to everyone working in the EU, the basic rights and protections provided are:

  • a limit of an average of 48 hours a week which a worker can be required to work (though workers can choose to work more if they want to).
  • a limit of an average of 8 hours work in 24 which nightworkers can be required to work.
  • a right for night workers to receive free health assessments.
  • a right to 11 hours rest a day.
  • a right to a day off each week.
  • a right to an in-work rest break if the working day is longer than 6 hours.
  • a right to 4 weeks paid leave per year.

Using Tachomaster to store and analyse your data will take care of the Working Time Regulations as well. All the tachograph data will be processed against the rules and along with any EU Drivers Hours infringements you will see Working Time Regs infringements too.

For your workers without any tachograph data, the Tachomaster solution also includes features to record other times. Times can be entered by means of a quick input screen, a spreadsheet, even from a workers mobile phone. A number of reports will then use this data to show you the information however you need.

All these reports are generated as you need them, with no waiting times, and matching the criteria you select.

Q: Am I tied to a contract with Tachomaster?

A: No. There is no contract and you are free to stop using the service any time you choose.

Q: Does Tachomaster automatically analyse RTD rules for me?

A: Yes. The RTD rules will be analysed, and accurate reporting on infringements etc. given, providing the records are filled in. The RTD includes Holidays, Sick days etc. and these need to be recorded. Digital Tachograph records alone are not enough to comply with all the RTD rules.

Q: Does Tachomaster automatically calculate Driver's rules for me?

A: Yes. All Tachograph records entered are analysed for Driver's rules.

Q: How much will Tachomaster cost me?

A: You will be charged just £1 per week per Worker, if you wish to also download and store your digital vehicle data you will be charged 50p per week per Vehicle. If there are no times entered for the week for a Worker or Vehicle you will not be charged for that week.

Q: How do I pay for Tachomaster?

A: When trial expires you will be asked to complete a monthly direct debit to continue use. This may either be submitted directly from the web-page for instant activation, or printed and returned to us in the post.
